Researching language systems across domains, with a focus on biomedical & clinical NLP.

I am an integrated M.S./Ph.D. student in Computer Science and Engineering at Korea University, working with Prof. Jaewoo Kang in the DMIS Lab. I study how NLP and large language models become reliable domain-specific systems — through food computing, scam detection, clinical text-to-SQL, and biomedical question answering — and I now focus on biomedical and clinical applications.

  • Sep 2026Our paper “Substituting Radiology Reports for Chest Radiographs does not preserve prediction behavior in Post-Discharge Mortality Prediction” was accepted to JAMIA Open — we find that swapping chest radiographs for their radiology reports changes how patients are risk-ranked for post-discharge mortality, not just how accurately they are scored. preprint
  • Aug 2026“ASH: A Systematic Automated Evaluation Framework for Creative Text Generation in Cuisine Transfer Tasks” is now published in IEEE Access (Early Access) — my first first-author journal article, extending our ICDM 2025 workshop paper and closing out this line of food-computing work.   • Aug 2026Attended ACM KDD 2026 in Jeju alongside my DMIS labmates — from Jeff Dean's keynote to workshops on agentic data science and reliable scientific foundation models, poster sessions on biomedical vision–language models and AI for science, and the industry expo.

  • Nov 2025Presented “Culinary Class Wars: Evaluating LLMs Using ASH in Cuisine Transfer Task” at the CoGamy Workshop, IEEE ICDM 2025, Washington, D.C.
  • Sep 2025Our KU-DMIS team achieved 1st place overall in the BioASQ 13b Phase B challenge (biomedical QA with exact answers); we received the award at CLEF 2025 in Madrid.
  • Jun 2024Participated in the EHRSQL 2024 shared task on text-to-SQL over electronic health records as part of the KU-DMIS team (Clinical NLP Workshop @ NAACL 2024).

    My current focus: NLP and LLM systems that reason over biomedical text, structured clinical data, and domain-specific knowledge to support scientific discovery and clinical decision-making.

    Across domains, I study what it takes to turn a general-purpose language model into a system that can be trusted in a specialized setting.

  • Previous Application Domains

    Before concentrating on biomedical NLP, I studied how NLP systems must be adapted and evaluated under the constraints of other specialized domains — each project shaped how I think about reliability, evaluation, and domain knowledge.
